Staff for Houston Mayor Annise Parker (D), an openly gay politician who has criticized President Obama for his "evolving" stance on gay marriage, tell TPM that White House adviser Valerie Jarrett called Parker personally Wednesday as Obama made his announcement that he supports marriage equality.

After Obama's announcement, Parker tweeted her support for the president.

"Wow! I was wrong," she wrote. "Call from White House. The President has stepped up and stated his support for recognizing relationships…like mine!"
