Suspicious Package Prompts Evacuation Of Florida Early Voting Site

An early voting site for residents of Florida's Orange County was evacuated due to a suspicious package some time around noon on Saturday.

Mary Gail Coffee, a spokesperson for the Winter Park Public Library, in Winter Park, Fla., told TPM that a voter pointed out an unattended lunch box near the polling location to the lead poll worker around 11:30 a.m. The lead poll worker called the police, and the library was subsequently evacuated. Law enforcement and fire department personnel were on site when Coffee spoke with TPM, and voting had been suspended.

Early voting at the library was supposed to run from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day from Oct. 27 to Nov. 3.
