Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown has a solid lead over state Treasurer Josh Mandel in the Ohio Senate race.

Brown leads 49 percent to 42 percent, according to a new Marist poll commissioned by NBC News and the Wall Street Journal. The survey of 979 likely voters was conducted Sept. 9-11, and has a 3.1 percent margin of error.

The PollTracker Average shows Brown ahead, 47.1 percent to 42.4 percent.
