The Obama campaign is running an ad in Ohio attacking Mitt Romney for using coal miners as "props" in one of his own campaign commercials. The ad is the latest in a string of ads from both campaigns targeted at winning Ohio coal country.
The Romney campaign debuted an ad attacking President Obama in September that used footage of a Romney campaign rally that coal miners at Murray Energy say they felt forced to attend, according to local media reports. Obama's new ad, which is already running in the Youngstown, Ohio media market according to ABC News, stresses that Romney is exploiting the coal miners and is "not one of us."
"It turns out they were told that attendance at Mitt Romney's rally was, quote, mandatory," the narrator in Obama's ad says of the miners in Romney's ad. "Their mine was closed. Lost the pay they needed. All to be props in Romney's commercial."
