New York Times publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr. expressed support for incoming Times CEO Mark Thompson amid a scandal engulfing the BBC, where Thompson was previously director general.
Former BBC host Jimmy Savile, who died last year, is accused of molesting hundreds of boys and girls. A BBC investigation into the allegations was canceled while Thompson was in charge of the British broadcaster. Thompson has said he didn't know of the investigation until after it was canceled.
In a letter to New York Times employees, quoted by the paper online, Sulzberger said Thompson provided an account of the situation at the BBC and is satisfied Thompson "played no role in the cancellation of the segment."
