Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) on Wednesday defended Huma Abedin, a top aide to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and wife of former congressman Anthony Weiner, from accusations by conservatives that she took part in a conspiracy by the Muslim Brotherhood to infiltrate the U.S. government.
"These sinister accusations rest solely on a few unspecified and unsubstantiated associations of members of Huma’s family, none of which have been shown to harm or threaten the United States in any way," McCain said on the Senate floor. "These attacks on Huma have no logic, no basis, and no merit. And they need to stop now."
"I am proud to know Huma, and to call her my friend," McCain added.
