Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad (R) on Friday blasted Karl Rove's new super PAC dedicated to backing disciplined Republican candidates in order to win back congressional majorities.
"I basically told Karl Rove that what he was doing is counter-productive and he needs to stay out of it," Branstad told the AP, recounting a phone call between the two men.
The group, called the Conservative Victory Project, has already sparked infighting between the Republican establishment and the tea party. Rove has insisted he doesn't want a fight with the tea party and isn't out to protect incumbent Republicans.
