A limited number of tickets to the Inaugural Ball sold out early after Ticketmaster accidentally made the tickets available Sunday instead of Monday, NBC News in Washington, D.C. reports.
The Presidential Inaugural Committee had promised to make a limited number of tickets available online for $60.
Those who wanted the chance to buy tickets signed up at www.2013pic.org. The email containing the link to buy tickets should have gone out Monday morning.
Ticketmaster is attributing the issue to a testing error.
Update: Statement from Jacqueline Peterson, Ticketmaster's senior vice president of corporate communications:
While an e-mail indicating that Inaugural event tickets were available was sent earlier than planned, tickets to Inaugural events were sold per usual Ticketmaster process on a first come first serve basis. Everyone who purchased tickets for the Inaugural Ball and the Inaugural parade will receive their tickets.
We understand the disappointment people feel if they were unable to obtain tickets, but like all other popular events, demand was much greater than supply. Ticketmaster and PIC will continue to work closely to ensure everyone receives the latest ticketing information.
