Charred human remains were removed Tuesday from the cabin near Big Bear, Calif. where it was believed that the fugitive ex-Los Angeles Police Department cop Christopher Dorner had barricaded himself, the Associated Press reported.
According to the AP, it is believed that Dorner had been hiding in the cabin since last Thursday. The cabin went up in flames Tuesday after a deadly firefight with a man believed to be Dorner. A deputy was killed in the shootout. San Bernardino County, Calif. sheriff's officials said Tuesday that a forensics team will determine if the burned remains are Dorner, the Los Angeles Times reported.
If the body does turn out to be Dorner as expected, it will mark the end of a weeklong manhunt throughout southern California that began after he allegedly killed three people in a rampage against the LAPD.
