Nine Republicans in the Iowa state House of Representatives on Wednesday put forward a bill that would define abortion as murder, the Ames Tribune reported.
The legislation would change the definition of someone involved in a murder case to “an individual human being, without regard to age of development, from the moment of conception, when a zygote is formed, until natural death.”
State Rep. Rob Bacon (R), one of the legislators to introduce the bill, said that the bill is an effort to "protect the life of the unborn" but conceded that it has no chance of becoming law.
“There’s still some of us that believe life begins at conception," Bacon told the Tribune.
