Leading domain name registar GoDaddy's website and DNS hosting servers were offline as of Monday afternoon, causing thousands of other webpages hosted on the servers to go down as well, as Mashable first reported. GoDaddy posted a message to its official Twitter account at 1:35 pm EDT saying it was aware of the problem and working to fix it:
Status Alert: Hey, all. We're aware of the trouble people are having with our site. We're working on it.

Two hours later, with the problem unresolved, GoDaddy's Twitter account added:
So many messages, can't get to you all... Sorry to hear all your frustration. We're working feverishly to resolve as soon as possible.

A self-proclaimed hacker behind the Twitter account "@AnonymousOwn3r" claimed credit for the outage, tweeting:
Hello godaddy.com now yes! all servers #tangodown by @anonymousown3r
