Americans for Responsible Solutions, the group founded by former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly to push for sensible gun legislation, announced the release of two new ads in Iowa and Arizona Tuesday asking key senators to support background check legislation.
The ads are similar to the first ad by the group and shows the same images from vigils at recent mass shootings in Aurora, Colo., Newtown, Conn., Tucson, Ariz., and Oak Creek, Wis. "We have a problem," Giffords says over the images, "where we shop, where we pray, where our children go to school."
The ads then note that eight in 10 Arizonans and nine in 10 Iowans support universal background checks. The Arizona ad urges viewers to call Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) and the Iowa ad urges them to call Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), both on the Senate Judiciary Committee, and ask them to support background check legislation.
The ads will air on cable channels across the two states. The group is spending six figures together on the ads, the Associated Press reports.
