New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg will host a fundraiser for Republican Sen. Scott Brown of Massachusetts on Aug. 15. Brown is locked in a tight race with Democratic nominee Elizabeth Warren.
Bloomberg, a champion of gun control, has renewed his push for federal action on gun laws in the wake of the movie theater shooting in Colorado. This past week, Brown's office reaffirmed his position that gun control legislation should be left to the states. Brown has supported the state-level assault weapons ban in Massachusetts.
Bloomberg spokesman Stu Loeser told the New York Times that Brown has worked with them on a key gun issue: “The biggest reason the mayor is supporting Senator Brown is the senator’s help on one of our biggest gun issues: opposing concealed-carry reciprocity that would let people with gun permits from rural states like Arkansas and Kentucky carry hidden handguns in New York City."
